Short answer: a working AI prototype is a great start, but before you show it to customers you need seven more things: a security review, code in a repository, proper hosting, a secured database with backups, production-ready email and payments, monitoring, and a plan for further development. We cover each step below.
What is vibe coding?
Vibe coding means building an app by describing to AI what you want instead of writing code line by line. Tools like Lovable, Bolt, v0, Cursor and Claude let you build in hours what used to take weeks. The trouble starts when the prototype needs to become a product.
7 steps from prototype to product
1. Security review
AI writes code that works, not necessarily code that is secure. The most common issues are API keys in front-end code, missing database access rules, no server-side permission checks and no rate limits. This is the first thing to check before launch.
2. Code in a repository
If the project only lives inside an AI tool, you don’t fully control it. Exporting to GitHub gives you version history, a backup and automatic deployments.
3. Proper hosting
A preview inside an AI tool is not production hosting. You can choose cloud platforms (Vercel, Netlify, Cloudflare) or your own fixed-price server, depending on traffic, database and budget - see our comparison Vercel vs your own server.
4. Database and backups
User data is the most valuable part of the app. You need access rules, regular backups and a tested restore procedure. If you use Supabase, read Supabase vs self-hosted PostgreSQL.
5. Production email and payments
Emails from default services have low limits and land in spam. Test payments must be switched to live mode, with webhooks, refunds and invoices handled correctly.
6. Monitoring
You need to know the app is down before customers tell you. Uptime monitoring, error logs and alerts are the minimum for any commercial product.
7. A plan for growth
Over time, every change made through prompts starts breaking something else. That is the natural moment to bring in a developer who cleans up the code and keeps building the app with you.
Prototype vs product
| AI prototype | Customer-ready product | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | Preview inside the AI tool | Your own domain, production hosting |
| Security | Unverified | Reviewed, keys and data secured |
| Data | No backups | Daily backups, restore procedure |
| Outages | Noticed by accident | Monitoring and alerts |
| Changes | More prompts | Repository, tests, automatic deployments |
You don’t have to do it alone
We created our deployment and hosting service for AI-built apps for exactly these projects. We review the code, fix what is critical, launch the app on our server or in the cloud with its database, and look after it after launch. You can keep building with AI. Show us what you built.
